Main Info
Aegina is one of the nearest islands to Athens and is considered the land of the legendary Achilles. Visit the Temple of Aphaea, situated atop a pine-covered hill in the north-eastern part of the island. This was the prototype for the Parthenon. When the skies are clear, you can see the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion and the Acropolis of Athens from this spot.
The Temple of Aphaea in Aegina, forms an isosceles triangle with these two temples , which was the Holy Triangle of ancient times.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
From Piraeus port we catch the very first ferry-boat to Aegina. The boat trip will take about one hour and 15mins and will satisfy us with the morning sea breeze under the first warm sunbeams.
On arrival, we head to the Aphaea Temple, which is located at a magnificent spot with an unlimited view to the Saronic bay. Some architects/geometers, had a ‘super-taste’ in selecting the Temple sites….
Now we take the coastal road back to the town. We can make a second (optional) stop at the Sculpture museum.
Arriving at Aegina, we can take a stroll in the Old Town and/or visit the Archeological and the Folk museum.
Now it’s high time we got to the beach!
Driving towards Perdika, a distant, beautiful coastal village, we stop at Marathonas for a joyful swim. We can also swim in Perdika (those who would like to) and then have lunch in a taverna of your choice.
Late in the evening, having the first sunset colours on the left-hand side, we get the boat back to Piraeus.
